Easily startled, leery trout are really even more jumpy when they are in the shallow waters of the rivers than when they are in the deep waters of Lake Michigan. They must migrate into the tributaries to breed but you will need to be ready for them when the time is right. You will need all your skill to get them to take the bait.
Late February to late-April is the season that two of the types of steelheads that migrate into Wisconsin begin their run. The temperature starts to warm up and the trout start their run. A perfect time for Southern Wisconsin Vacations.
Get the bait near the bottom, bring it to the face of the fish and be ready to react when it takes off, which it may. The fish will try to snap the line if it can get any slack in it. The fish are commonly bigger then the 10 pound line many fisherman use but you can get them if you run them to tire them out and then start bringing them in.
There are quite a few Lake Michigan rivers in Wisconsin, many of them are Kewaunee, Root, Oconto, Manitowoc, Menominee, Milwaukee, East Twin, Peshtigo, Ahnapee, and West Twin rivers. Additional steelhead rivers include the Pigeon, Little, Pike, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic rivers; Stony, Oak, Heins, Sauk, Whitefish Bay, Fischer, Silver, and Reibolts creeks.
There just are not many Wisconsin Dells attractions that will appeal to the fisherman like the rivers with the trout challenges. You will be so happy you spent the time to come and meet the people, face the elusive trout and know that you have been in some of the most beautiful countryside in the nation.
