Migration Camp is an interesting compromise as it offers the benefits of a lodge with the luxury of a swimming pool and proper restaurant and bar facilities and at the same time the sense of adventure and proximity to the animals that you can only really get from sleeping under canvas. The intention is to provide very comfortable surroundings, but without losing contact with the environment. eating outdoors under the stars and sleeping under canvas, listening to the sounds of the bush.
The Northern area of the park is very quiet compared to the Seranera and it is usually rare to meet another vehicle. Up here you can really experience the wild side of the Serengeti.
The Serengeti migration seasons at camp are centred around July and November when the herds pass through the area, sometimes crossing the river right in front of camp. Game viewing from the breakfast terrace can be superb. Additionally there is good resident game throughout the year, especially lion, leopard and elephant not forgetting the hippo and crocodile along the river near the camp.
In fact the camp is located along the bank of the Grumeti River, raised up on the side of an impressive kopje known as Poacher's Lookout, with broad views north over the undulating Serengeti hills and beyond to the plains of the Maasai Mara. The main public areas comprise a two level lounge and bar area, the upper part of which is shown in the photo. Adjacent to this is the swimming pool and beyond is the restaurant area and breakfast terrace
The Serengeti Migration Camp has twenty luxury safari tents; some of the positions are better than others being positioned in between the outcrops of rocks. Each of the tents has an en-suite bathroom, with permanent plumbing and electricity is provided by our generator evenings and mornings. Sockets are UK 3-pin 230 volts.
The honeymoon tent is located away from the other tents in a raised position up in the trees on Poacher's Lookout. For those so inclined there is an outdoor small hot tub in which to enjoy a glass of champagne. There is also a family tent, which is made up of two normal tents, joined by a large shared bathroom, which will sleep a family of up to six people in comfort.
There is over fifty full time staff at Migration Camp and there is a genuine family feeling about the place as most of the staff has worked here for many years.
Walking safaris in the Serengeti are not generally permitted, but Migration Camp has been granted special permission to conduct game walks in the small concession area around the lodge.
