Grumeti River Tented Camp is a luxury tented camp that nonetheless has an authentic feel. The camp is in a beautifully peaceful location overlooking a tributary of the Grumeti River which drains into lake Victoria. Alive with hippo and crocodiles, the river is lined by tall riverine trees, home to countless birds and troops of Colobus monkeys.
The décor of the whole camp is very daring and stylish. Bright colours have been used throughout to great effect and the overall effect is surprisingly refreshing but somehow not out of place.
There are only ten spacious tented suites overhung with banana-leaf and thatch roofs. These are no ordinary safari tents however, perched on a platform, the ivory coloured tents are decorated in bright kente cloth and sculptured African furnishings. Each suite has a ceiling fan en suite luxury bathroom and a private intimate terrace. The centrepiece to each room is a giant colourfully adorned hand carved bed.
Askaris (security guards) accompany you to and from your tent at night.
The lounge and boma are decorated in bright orange and lime green. The main living areas, including the pool, overlook the water lettuce-edged river. Wallow the lazy hours away in our tempting plunge pool, relax in our lounge and domed bar or wander through the curio shop. The spacious decks are perfect for sundowners overlooking the river. Solar panels have replaced electric power to eliminate noise and pollution.
Evenings at Grumeti are very special whether as a couple or a group of friends. The service is outstanding, the food is excellent and the location spectacular. You cannot get more luxurious than this.
