The Ruaha River Lodge was the first lodge to be built in Ruaha and whilst in now shows its age, it is very much a part of the landscape. The site on and around a granite outcrop overlooking the rapids on the Great Ruaha river is excellent. The restaurant and bar areas have great views over the river, the food is good from local farm ingredients, if slightly British for continental taste. The staff are extremely friendly and Peter & Sarah Fox the owner managers are charming and incredibly knowledgeable having been brought up in and around the park. At night a campfire is lit near the river and we have good memories of our evenings spent in this lodge. The rooms are individual stone cottages with thatched roofs that are reasonably distant one from the other. They are spacious and well furnished and have en-suite bathrooms and most of the terraces have excellent views over the river which is often rich with wildlife, particularly during the dry season when the game is forced to the river for water.
