Selous Sand Rivers

In the heart of the Selous, Sand Rivers is set idyllically on a little peninsula on a wide curve in the Rufiji River not far from the hot springs at Tagalala about 10 miles downstream from Stigler’s Gorge. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular settings imaginable for a lodge.

The camp strikes a perfect balance between luxury safari style with heavy wood and leather furniture and openness to the beautiful surroundings. The dining area is upstairs overlooking a generous swimming pool set into the rocks just above the river.

The camp has eight large separate thatched rooms of local stone which are well separated one from the other to give maximum privacy. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms spacious and the rooms are open on one side offering beautiful views over the river.

The food and wines, and general hospitality at this lodge are outstanding, all in an atmosphere of total safari style.

It is not only the hospitality that makes this lodge truly exceptional but also the quality of the guides. There are various safari options including river safaris and walking and land rover safaris. This is also an excellent place from which to organize tented excursions into the depths of this large and beautiful park.
